Construction Firm Buys 12 Megawatts of Industrial Diesel Generators

Record Power Package for Generator Source -  (6) 2000 kW Kohler Generator Sets for 12 MW of Power!

How much power do you need to do the job right? Generator Source recently teamed up with a client, one of the largest construction companies in the United States. The company is working on multiple projects all over the Southeast. The deal set a record for the largest total power package to date.

“Generator Source has been operating for more than 40 years and recent deal for standby power saw our largest power move ever,” said Dakotah Merkley, Director of Procurement and Asset Management at Generator Source.

“A large construction company bought six (6) 2000 kW Kohler/Rehlko model 2000REOZMD industrial gensets. That’s 12 MWs of power, comparable to the output of a power plant.”

The company specializes in commercial and industrial projects. Generator Source will send the units to locations across the Southeast and they will supply standby power to multiple industrial facilities.

Each Kohler generator set was a new 2024 model. They feature 277/480 voltage and a 3000-amp circuit breaker. The generators have Mitsubishi S16R engines and sound attenuated enclosures. They also include 4,150-gallon fuel tanks.

“These are massive units weighing in at 60,000 pounds,” added Dakotah. “Each unit will be shipped in three parts (base tank, genset, enclosure), meaning the transportation to the construction sites will likely require 18 trips by wide load trucks.”

In the past, Generator Source has purchased and sold numerous 1 MW, 1.5 MW, 2 MW and 2.5 MW units with three or four total gensets totaling 4 MW to 8 MW—but this one beats them all with total power at 12 MWs.

The Kohlers/Rehlkos will ship out as the construction company gets closer to the dates when they are ready to be installed and put online at the new facilities.

“The biggest factors that contributed to the client choosing Generator Source for this purchase was the fact that we offer immediate availability with generators always ready to ship (no waiting) and we pride ourselves on customer service,” said Jared Outram, account manager.

Do you have a project needing industrial power coming down the pike? Maybe you need to sell a unit and replace them with an upgrade? Generator Source does it all.

We pay cash for low-hour, well-maintained gensets and we also sell new, surplus, and used industrial generators worldwide. We can manage the decommissioning and installation as well. About the only limitation, we deal with 60 Hz units being based in the West/USA.

We also have teams in Colorado, Florida and Texas where we also offer rentals and field services to help companies maintain industrial gensets for reliable power and peace of mind.

All generators are guaranteed. Generator Source runs all units through a 31-point inspection/certification process to ensure units are ready for work and reliably supply power.
